CARMEN GRAY

About

Carmen Gray was born in Valencia, Spain, in 1989 and graduated in Photography (2010) and Art History (2018). Gray later established a studio in Amsterdam. In 2021, Gray began an MA in Experimental Publishing at the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam before moving to London to pursue an MFA at Goldsmiths. Photography and travel are central to Gray’s practice, and she has lived, worked, and studied across Poland, the United States, Spain, and the Netherlands.

At its core, Gray's work revolves around photography. While the narrative is more intricate, Gray’s practice is fundamentally about taking photos. Learning photography provided a tool for expression, while living in different countries and studying Art History became a means of collecting experiences, ideas, and material for experimentation. This lived experience manifests in an extensive archive of images, videos, collaborations, textiles, ceramic ashtrays, and publications. Gray’s practice is rooted in continuous exploration – whether found in the library, working with friends or in the studio, engaging with the world as an ever-evolving source of inspiration.
